Post Treatment Aftercare Advice

Our care does not stop at the clinic door!

Our practitioners are always on hand to offer you follow-up appointments, skincare prescriptions and to answer any questions. In fact, we are accessible 24/7 – if you are worried about a treatment side effect, you can call us for emergency access to a STORY doctor.

Simply call our usual number no matter what day or time it is: 020 3960 0134.

If you call outside our clinic hours, select the Emergency Call option. A STORY doctor will then call you back within 12 hours (usually within one hour).

Our Post-Treatments Advice

Wrinkle Reduction Treatments

  • Immediately after the procedure you can expect a small red swelling at the injection site which should reduce within 30 minutes. It is important not to apply any pressure on the areas treated to avoid undesired spread of the product.
  • There may occasionally be bruising or redness at the injection site which in most cases disappears within a few days. Please keep in mind it can take longer for a bruise to completely heal.
  • The full effect of Botulinum Toxin is not instant, but most people start to notice changes within 5 days and a full result by 14 days. Any reviews following Botulinum toxin must take place within the 2-4 week period following treatment.
  • Avoid touching the area and applying makeup directly to the injection sites for 24 hours, this is to reduce any incidence of infection.
  • Avoid alcohol, exercise, excessively warm environments such as hot showers and baths, steam rooms and saunas for at least 24 hours afterwards as it can lead to flushing of the skin.
  • Avoid rubbing the areas of the face that have been injected for 24 hours; avoid any facials or facial massage at another clinic for at least 2 weeks after treatment.
  • Unless for other medical reasons, avoid taking Ibuprofen or Aspirin for 24 hours as this can lead to bruising or worsening of an existing bruise. We would advise you to take paracetamol if needed.

Dermal Filler Treatments

  • You will likely experience some discomfort and swelling after the procedure; this generally takes a few days to settle, but can take up to 4 weeks.
  • There may occasionally be bruising or redness at the injection site which in most cases disappears within a few days. Please keep in mind it can take longer for a bruise to completely heal.
  • Avoid touching the area and applying makeup directly to the injection sites for 24 hours, this is to reduce any incidence of infection.
  • Avoid alcohol, exercise, excessively warm environments such as hot baths and showers, steam rooms and saunas for at least 24 hours afterwards as it can lead to flushing of the skin – this can increase the swelling and bruising post procedure.
  • Avoid rubbing the areas of the face that have been injected for 24 hours; avoid other facial treatments at another clinic for 4 weeks after treatment.
  • Unless for other medical reasons, avoid taking Ibuprofen or Aspirin for 24 hours as this can lead to bruising or worsening of an existing bruise. We would advise you to take paracetamol if needed.
  • If you notice any areas of skin that become pale, mottled, or grey, or if you are experiencing ongoing and worsening pain, you should seek immediate advice from STORY Clinics – this could be a sign that a nearby blood vessel has been blocked. This is a very rare but potentially serious complication and treatment may be needed urgently. Please refer to the instructions in your aftercare email on how to get in touch with us out of hours.

Skin Treatments including injectable treatments

  • Immediately after the procedure you can expect a few small bumps in the treated area. Swelling at the injection site is expected and should reduce within 72 hours.
  • You might experience mild discomfort and minor swelling after the procedure; this generally takes a few days to settle, but can take up to 2 weeks.
  • There may occasionally be bruising or redness at the injection site which in most cases disappears within a few days. Please keep in mind it can take longer for a bruise to completely heal.
  • Avoid touching the area and applying makeup directly to the injection sites for 24 hours, this is to reduce any incidence of infection.
  • Avoid alcohol, exercise, excessively warm environments such as hot baths and showers, steam rooms and saunas for at least 24 hours afterwards as it can lead to flushing of the skin – this can increase the swelling post procedure.
  • Avoid rubbing the areas of the face that have been injected for 24 hours; avoid facial treatments at another clinic for at least 4 weeks after treatment.

  • The risk of a vascular event is minor with Skin Injectables, however still possible with certain treatments. If you notice any areas of skin that become pale, mottled, or grey, or if you are experiencing ongoing and worsening pain, you should seek immediate advice from STORY Clinics. This is a very rare but potentially serious complication and treatment may be needed urgently. Please refer to the instructions in your aftercare email on how to get in touch with us out of hours.

If you require urgent assistance outside our regular clinic hours (9am-6pm, Monday to Saturday) or during closures such as Bank Holidays, please call the same number – 020 3960 0134 – and select the Emergency Call option.

A STORY doctor will then contact you as soon as possible. This is usually within one hour but may take up to 12 hours.
