Introducing Dr Marcus Mehta, STORY co-founder, aesthetics doctor and lead injector at STORY Southwell.
Dr Marcus Mehta, MBBS, BSc(Hons), PgDip Clinical Dermatology, was born in Lincoln and now lives in Southwell, though his aesthetics career has also led him to spells in London’s Knightsbridge.
We asked Dr Marcus a few questions to get under our resident off-duty daredevil’s hood…
Which is your favourite treatment to perform?
Midface in combination with a chin treatment.
What is your area of specialisation?
I specialise in treatments that are painless, injection sites that are virtually undetectable and, most importantly, results that are natural. I’m a big believer in not changing a look, but enhancing and redefining key areas to harmonise the whole face. The result should be one that makes the person feel refreshed and well-slept rather than completely different.
What are you finding the most popular treatment at the moment?
I’ve seen a lot more men for treatment since the end of lockdown. Before this it was mostly volume restoration in 45-65 year old women, but now I see a lot more men for anti-wrinkle treatments and tear trough filler, interestingly. Zoom boom?
What got you into medical aesthetics?
My brother, Tristan (Dr Tristan Mehta, co-founder of STORY and aesthetics doctor at STORY Marylebone). I was in training in the NHS and Tris kept telling me I need to come check out aesthetics and join him. I did and, although it was a steep learning curve, I can’t imagine anything else that combines a medical approach with the creative freedom you have with aesthetics.
What are people’s 3 most common concerns before injectables?
- Pain – is it going to hurt, if so how much?
- Looking over-done.
What’s the secret to getting natural looking results from injectables?
To put back what has been lost with the ageing process. Restoration rather than augmentation. Many of my clients worry about looking overdone but, in truth, if volume is restored in key areas without overfilling, no one will even know you’ve had any filler at all!
What’s it like working with your brother?
Despite what people think, it’s great – we have a deep level of understanding of how each other works, so it makes us very efficient when we work together. We have an automatic level of trust that makes being in business together easy and if there’s a problem with something in the business, we know that it’ll get sorted whether it’s day or night!
You’re really active on Instagram @dr_marcus_mehta, how did you get into it and do you really enjoy it?
I’ve always enjoyed video making and creating short films. Instagram is a great platform to share that type of content but it’s also brilliant at educating followers about a niche speciality such as aesthetics, in a fun way.
Which are your favourite accounts to follow right now?
Aesthetics: @Dr.subbio – @Dr_Dan_Marsh – @Drmartinkinsella
Not aesthetics: @jonolsson1 – @Jayalvarrez – @Benjaminortega
If you weren’t in medical aesthetics, or medicine, what would you do for a living?
I have a few…. professional kitesurfer, racing driver, filmmaker, actor or television presenter!
Do you drive? If so, what or what would you like to drive?
My favourite is the 2007 Land Rover Defender 90, but my dream car is a CoolnVintage Land Rover series 2A.
How much water do you drink a day – be honest.
Depends how busy clinic is… There have been days when I’ve had one glass of water all day if it’s busy!
What is the most rewarding part of your job, Dr Marcus?
Seeing a new client that’s never had treatment before and being able to create amazing results in an area that has bothered them for a long time. Seeing that boost in self-confidence is the best part of my job.
If you’d like to see Dr Marcus, book your consultation at STORY Southwell now – he does get booked up in advance so the sooner the better, but we do have a wait list for his cancellation appointments.
